Welcome!

I hope to get around to making a proper Master Post of my fic, but until then please pretend that this is one! :)

All of my fic can be found here in my LJ and at the AO3. (I also announce fics on my tumblr, and interact some - in an entirely spoiler-free way - with fandom there.) Most of my fic is m/m slash, some of it is explicit, and pretty much all of it includes a significant amount of banter.

A little more about how things are organized )

I am writing actively now in Glee fandom (and a touch in The New Normal and Teen Wolf), but I've also written tons in Buffy and Angel and smatterings in Hawaii: Five-O, and Sports Night, as well as wetting my toes in Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, White Collar, and Firefly.

I do have a Glee Fic Index post.

I also have fic year in review posts for 2011 and 2012.

I hope you'll poke around, find some fic you like, and stay to chat! :)

I am, for the record, hugely spoiler-phobic, so please be courteous of that fact.

Statement on transformative works for my writing: I am always thrilled if people would like to turn my stories into podfics. I simply ask that anyone who wishes to do so contact me beforehand just to let me know (I've never said no), credit me as the author of the original work, and send me a link when it is finished! For fic remixes, e-books/compilations, translations, and so forth I would like to be contacted for specific permission. Art and fanmixes are always welcome; just please send me a link so that I can squee! :)

Welcome to my Glee fic index!

Below is a list of all of my Glee fic by type: long fics and series, thematic/meta fics, episode-related fics, and one-shots. They are listed in reverse chronological order from when they were written except in the case of within a given series or related to a specific episode, where they are listed from top to bottom in the order in which they should be read. Spoilers and warnings are marked briefly here and more fully at the fics in question.

This weekend, for the first time in about a year, I've sorted through the majority of my fandom inboxes instead of just poking at them from time to time but not pulling myself together enough to answer comments in a timely fashion. It's an encouraging sign that I had the emotional fortitude to do so; this year of keeping my family going through the pandemic has left me both raw and utterly, thoroughly drained. What a hell of a year.

I was going to say something about how affirming it is to see that fandom is right where I left it... except that the fun thing about fandom is that it's always moving! It has made me smile to sort through the AO3 notifications in my inbox and see what fandoms my favorite writers are playing in now. I'm happy to see this community still going and people still creating. People finding joy brings me joy.

So wherever you are in the world and in fandom, I wish you joy. <3

It feels today like I'll be back to join you at some point. :)

Oh, friends, I am weary of bad news.

After Cory died, I wrote one last fic of the Hummel-Hudson-Anderson-Berry family future I had dreamed about as a way of saying goodbye to him and to Finn.

There is too much sadness in the world right now for me to write a goodbye story for Naya and Santana, and we aren't in the thick of fandom anymore, anyway. That kind of closure doesn't feel as necessary. But I still want to take a moment to remember the bright flame she was on the screen and in the lives of the people who loved her. What a tragic event for them.

RIP, Naya. Glee fandom will never forget you or what you brought to Santana and the important messages she embodied.

I've been absent on DW/LJ/Tumblr for a while now because it has been more of a source of stress than of joy, but I realized this morning that I actually forgot about fandom for well over a month. Forgot! I didn't even think to check my fandom e-mail. That's just ridiculous. I love fandom - and you - so much! I love creative people making art and loving things! So here I am checking in, because I know what it feels like to wonder about people who just aren't around.

Long story short: we are okay. Also? This is really hard, even for introverts with means.

We've been isolated at home for over four weeks. Keeping our needs met and trying to help our parents from afar is taking up the vast majority of my mental energy; I just don't have room to think about much else. It reminds me of a trip I took to Europe where I was so focused on getting us around while speaking German (a language I only barely speak) that I didn't have the space in my head think of anything back home for over a week. There was only the here and now. That's my life day to day at this moment, too.

Other than how deeply upsetting this whole situation is, we are so far in good shape. I am grateful for that. mr. muse is working from home, and the museling (now 11!) has school via the internet. We have a big house and a big yard, so we aren't on top of each other, and I am acutely aware of how very fortunate we are.

We live right in the middle of the first New England hotspot, and mr. muse and I are operating under the assumption that we both had a mild form of the virus a couple of weeks ago. (Dry cough, painful lungs, difficulty breathing after doing something small like walking up stairs, loss of sense of smell, etc.) We haven't been tested or anything because, well, for some totally unknown reason that surely has nothing to do with the current resident of the White House there aren't tests available. *looks into the camera like Jim in the Office* We are hoping for an antibody test to come out at some point to show that we've been through it. We're both doing well now, though, and I'm grateful for that, too.

I grew up with grandparents who lived through the Depression and WWII, and I feel an extra sense of kinship with them and a gratitude to them in this time. I heard their stories of deprivation and ingenuity as a kid, and I think of them often as I fill up my freezer with food I've cooked and ponder how best to stretch the ingredients I have. It is part of the human experience, sadly. It gives me comfort to know from their own stories that there is a world on the other side of it.

I'm thinking of you and your families, wherever you are across the planet. I am determined to stay connected beyond my own real life network, because even if I can't give you a tip on which pharmacy is delivering prescriptions I still care about you. You're part of my world. <3

Apparently there's Tumblr platform drama, which I'm vaguely following. I can't bring myself to care that much, in part because I'm in the part of my fannish cycle where I'm pretty disconnected from things, in part because I've seen platforms implode plenty of times before, and in part because I still hate Tumblr despite it being my main fandom experience. So. I'm not surprised that there's drama. Platforms that fans don't own and run mean drama, deletions, and changing terms of service. Thank goodness for the AO3.

Anyway, I'm sorry if the Tumblr stuff is stressful for you, and I still have accounts here (and on LJ) and have a pillowfort account as well. As quiet as I am in fandom, I'm not gone. I'm just in hibernation, and if fandom moves elsewhere when I find myself in my own fannish spring again I'll pop up wherever y'all are.

Love to you. May there be light in the winter darkness for all of you. <3

I am determined to dust off my WIPs or shelve them for good, and so here we are.

Back when season three was airing, I wrote a fic about Kurt called “Being Kurt Hummel,” which was a look at Kurt’s life through his view of himself and his sexuality. I was (very kindly) asked by a few readers to write a parallel fic about Blaine. This... is not that fic, but that was my starting point for contemplating a big internal Blaine story, so it’s as close as I’m going to get.

During season four, especially by the end of the season, I got to thinking a lot about Blaine and marriage, about why he’d want to propose to Kurt when they weren’t even dating again, about what relationships and marriage mean to him, and a whole bunch about Blaine and belonging and his penchant for big, showy, sometimes inappropriate events like serenades in the Gap and proposals out of the blue.

This isn’t that fic, either, but it’s what came of all of my pondering of Mr. Blaine Anderson and his need for love and support for gay marriage. It’s been 95% written since the summer after season four, and in my navel-gazing frustration about it not magically turning into the other two fics I’ve been sitting on it. For years.

But no longer!

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Damen/Laurent (Captive Prince)
Characters: Damen (Captive Prince), Laurent (Captive Prince)
Additional Tags: Character Study
Summary:

Laurent has a talk with Damen as he settles into kingship.

Canst thou, O partial sleep, give thy repose
To the wet sea-boy in an hour so rude;
And in the calmest and most stillest night,
With all appliances and means to boot,
Deny it to a king? Then, happy low, lie down!
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.

- "Henry IV, part II," act III, scene i

I'm happy to get another fic that's been sitting in my GDocs out the door before spring break here. I'm barely making it - there's a half hour before the museling is out of school - but I hit my goal. Hooray! (I love playing in Laurent's voice, I have to say.)

For readers with excellent memories, this is the outline I've been working on since soon after Glee ended. I've finally come to terms with the fact that mere prose is never going to be enough for me to share what's in my head, so this is the best I can do. :)

At least maybe now I can stop crying over the songs? IDK.

And That's What We Missed on Glee: an outline for a season seven that never was (12756 words) by flaming_muse

A season seven of Glee that never was, following the original Glee kids who go back to New York after a semester in Ohio in season six. Written as an outline, not a prose story.

(Also hello! I am alive, though I'm tired of snow and illness and all of the nonsense of being a parent in winter in New England.)

WIP list

A couple of people have asked me recently what WIPs I'm working on, since my output lately has been scattered among various fandoms, so here's the current list of my open writing tabs, organized by fandom:

- Glee - my season seven outline fic, a Blaine and Sam fic, a sexy Klaine fic, and the big Blaine fic about marriage that I wrote years ago (hooray, I have finally figured out what was wrong with it)
- Check, Please! - a Jack and Lardo friendship fic (canonical, with the ensemble including Jack/Bitty)
- Parks and Rec - one truly ridiculous fic that makes me laugh
- Teen Wolf - two oddball unfinished Sterek fics

No idea which fic will pop out first or when that will be. Today I worked on the Jack and Lardo fic, but I'm still in the first quarter/third of the story, so that's not going to be finished any time soon. (Sigh.) I'd expect a Glee or Check, Please fic next.

So that's that.

The Darkest Timeline (17428 words) by flaming_muse

Characters: Blaine Anderson, David Karofsky

Summary:

What if Dave Karofsky had other reasons for dating Blaine than just simple affection?

An alternate Blaine/Dave relationship, starting in the summer before season 6 and running parallel through 6x05 ("The Hurt Locker, Part 2").

Read the warnings and author's note, people. Basically I took all of the joy and love out of Glee and turned it into a story of dark obsession. Just what everyone wanted! :P Enjoy?

I’ve been sitting on this fic for quite a while now. It was about 95% finished before Glee was even over. It isn’t my usual fare, and it’s a pairing that had a lot of people riled up at the time, so I decided to tuck it away in my WIP folder instead of figuring out if I wanted to share it. Then I forgot about it. I think now - I hope, anyway - the drama of canon is enough behind us that people can choose to read this fic or not and not freak out about the thought of it.

It is NOT the kind of fic I usually write in the Glee fandom. It is not properly canonical, though it mirrors season six from the summer before it starts through 6x05 (“The Hurt Locker: Part 2”). It is dark, for sure. It’s unhappy. It is full of coercion and manipulation. The sex is often not healthy, smart, or kind. Neither is the relationship between Blaine and Dave. Kurt does not appear in person in this fic, but he’s certainly present in their world.

For those of you missing my regular sorts of fic, I’m dusting off more Klaine WIPs as we speak.

I am having a super crazy busy week here to the point that I'm having stress chest pains, so in reaction I guess I've been using my daily writing time to do a polish on fics that have been lingering in my wip tabs. You know, just last week I despaired of ever finishing and posting anything... but then there isn't much left that is close to being finished, so I guess I'll go quiet again while I'm plodding along bit by bit about Jack Zimmermann. :P

Rain (3666 words) by flaming_muse
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Glee
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Blaine Anderson/Kurt Hummel
Characters: Kurt Hummel, Blaine Anderson
Additional Tags: Rain, Marriage, Arguing
Summary:

Just because they're married doesn't mean they're new people. An argument, some rain, and a resolution of sorts. A bit of newly married Klaine in New York.

I'm interested in how Kurt and Blaine deal with conflict after two break-ups and an unexpected marriage. They've both grown a lot, but they also are who they are. I wrote the first draft of this fic as a freewriting exercise one day, and I've been trying here and there since to shape it into something that made sense to people who weren't me.

Also, I feel like if there were a theme bingo for my work, rain would be one of the squares. The atmosphere of rainy days is powerful to me, I guess.

Blow Me Away (1219 words) by flaming_muse
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Check Please! (Webcomic)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Eric "Bitty" Bittle/Jack Zimmermann
Characters: Eric "Bitty" Bittle, Jack Zimmermann
Additional Tags: Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot, Blow Jobs, Masturbation
Summary:

"Eric can barely string words together, but if he could they sure as hell wouldn’t be to complain."

A bit of PWP freewriting.

So I got to thinking about Jack's focus and Jack letting his guard down in a relationship and how Bitty might experience them, and one day I free-wrote a bit about that from Bitty's perspective in a sexual situation.

Since this was freewriting, it is minimally edited and deliberately written in a stream of consciousness/less grammatically precise style.

So, yeah, I really liked Hela in Thor: Ragnarok when I saw it yesterday, and I made some fic about her today. Whoops?

This is the gen-iest gen fic I have ever written, and it's in one of those massive fandoms I read in but have never written in. I feel like a proper multi-fandom fangirl!

Birthright (1009 words) by flaming_muse
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Thor (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor - All Media Types
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Hela (Marvel), Skurge
Additional Tags: Death, Not Really Character Death
Summary:

"Hela knows there’s unrest outside the doors, thousands of Asgardians not yet eager to bow to her. But she’s unworried. They will bow. Alive or dead, they will most certainly fall to their knees on the blood-soaked ground and know that she rules them."

A bit of Hela and Skurge in the throne room.

Takes place during Thor: Ragnarok.

I am still writing pretty much every day, and although I'm working in a variety of fandoms and fics at once, occasionally I actually finish a fic. So, I'm booting this one out the door.

Outside Interests (3083 words) by flaming_muse
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Shadowhunters (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Magnus Bane/Alec Lightwood
Characters: Alec Lightwood, Magnus Bane
Additional Tags: Tea
Summary:

"It’s ridiculous and stupid for Alec not to know what to do with his hands when it’s not in his role as a Shadowhunter, but then all of him feels itchy and awkward and real inside his skin in a way he only does with Magnus."

Tea, rain, conversation, awkwardness, and maybe a kiss or two.

Set a day or two after 2x20 "Beside Still Water"

Yadda yadda, it's the beginning of the school year, I'm still in Get Everything Organized mode (which included unpacking the TARDIS that is my office closet, and wow does it suddenly seem like I have read/written/done a lot of things when I spread it all out in piles across the floor), and my brain is still twitchy from having been full time parenting my beloved but highly interactive child for all of August. I am so far from settled into a normal rhythm that I can't even really make a normal post right now.

BUT. I've been watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in little bits since, oh, Friday, and I am feeling ALL of the Thewlis as Lupin feels and watched the scene in the Shrieking Shack like five times in a row because I'm obsessed with his performance (and Oldman's Sirius, too), and I feel like I've been fannishly zapped back about a decade to a time when my LJ friends list was buzzing about these very topics ONLY I AM THE ONLY ONE HERE. :D I wasn't even in HP fandom! But goodness, I really enjoyed revisiting those performances. I'll have to go back through my memories and see if I saved any of the great fic and meta from that time.

Fandom problems, jeez.

I REALLY LIKED IT, Y'ALL.

I am still processing and capslocking about it to anyone who will listen, but I'm a person who has never cared much about a Spider-Man, and this hit my teenage super hero in Marvel universe buttons just right. It had lots of things that made me laugh, and there were places where my heart was in my throat for Peter, and I just... REALLY ENJOYED IT, OKAY? And OMG Tom Holland is such a cutie, and I loved watching him move. Yay for dancers.
